TENS Hire
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation)
TENS is a form of non-pharmaceutical pain relief involving the use of a mild electrical current. A TENS machine is a small, battery-operated device with cables connected to sticky electrode pads that are stuck on your back during labour.
The electrical pulses from the TENS give a gentle tingling or buzzing which can be turned up or down or "boosted" during a surge. The electrical pulses reduce pain signals being sent to your brain and help to release endorphins (the body's natural pain killers) and relax your muscles.
Mums who have used TENS machines during labour report feeling distracted from their contractions, more comfortable, less anxious and a feeling of being in control of their experience. TENS are usually very safe, however there are some contraindications (see terms of hire below).
I have the Elle TENS machines for hire for local women - this machine is specifically designed for labouring women. Submit the form below and pick up the machine from Hanley's Farm from about 36 weeks (so you're ready whenever your baby and body is ready), and return once you're done with it. I'm flexible with timings and most people only need it for up to 6 weeks - and just let me know if you're having trouble returning it to me with a newborn (I get it!)
Cost
The cost to hire the Elle TENS machine is $60 plus a $60 deposit. If the machine is returned in the same condition (except the electrode pads which are new for each woman) the deposit will be refunded.
